Some fun shots taken on the bay in East Hampton. Caroline is wearing Going Platinum, Heidi is in Gold Rush and (our mascot) Lulu is in the pink collar. The 1974 Jeep CJ5 is David’s baby and makes an awesome summer ride to the beach!
I was recently asked to describe some inspiration for the Gold Rush flat and I think this is a great place to share it!
As a designer my main inspirations are nature, color and texture. Gold rush is a perfect example of this. The Swarovski pieces are made to resemble 2 tone natural marble…. the heavier metal nuggets were to off set those natural elements. I also thought it would be playful to put such an organic shape into shiny metal…
As you will see, I also LOVE mixed media - the solid elements are sitting on Italian brocade and dainty Petersham ribbon. I think it softens the whole look and allows it to look hand-made. So much of the stuff out there looks soooo mass (punched out by a machine) to me… I love artisanal pieces that look one of a kind…special. That’s why I love that our pieces are small runs – they are unique.
Using the mixed media also allows the piece to look more feminine – again the frayed brocade around the edges is deliberately raw cut, so the wearer can see all the amazing colors of thread used in that tiny piece of fabric… I love sharing the story behind each piece – it’s something I can totally geek out about!!!
